Uncle B reported to Great Lakes Training Center on April 29, 1997. He
spent the next eight weeks learning what it means to be a sailor. On June 27, 1997, he
graduated and now can be called a sailor. His Division 256, received the highest award
that could be bestowed on a Division. The "Hall of Fame Flag" has only been
given to only 73 other divisions out of nearly 1000 that have passed through Great Lakes. Job Well Done!
He graduated as "fireman" and was shipped to Orlando, Florida
on July 4, 1997, where he has begun his training in Nuclear Power Plants. He has also
successfully passed his Petty Officer third class testing and is looking forward to
receiving his next grade the beginning of December when he completes the first phase of
his schooling.
In June 1998, He has completed his training in Orlando and has moved on
to Charleston, S.C for his final phase of training before he is assigned duty on the
fleet. This phase of training was a combination of both study and hands-on training,
involving getting use to the shift rotations. On December 23, 1998 he
completed his training and was assigned to the USS Enterprise, which has lead the Desert
Fox attack on Iraq.
He was able to come home and spend Christmas, and even got to spend
some extra time here by participating in the hometown recruiting program
On January 31, 1999, he boarded a plane from the Norfolk,
VA Naval Air Field and headed to Italy where he met up with
the Enterprise.
In May 1999, the returned to Norfolk where
the ship was put into dry dock for some needed upgrades.
He remained in Norfolk for nearly 18 mos. On
April 25, 2001 the Enterprise set sail for its six month Mediterranean
tour.
